Good things take time, and the reward is very sweet!
You can cook more than you need and keep it in the fridge; the sugar and the vinegar will help to preserve it well for at least a week.
Caramelized onions are very easy to make at home; all it takes is a little time. In fact, the most important ingredient you will need is ‘patience’.
Consider the fact that our caramelized onion takes nothing less than five hours! It is possible to cook it more quickly, but you know what they say: good things take time, and the reward is very sweet!
Our Caramelized Onion
We start peeling and chopping the onions in julienne strips. Then we put them in a small pot with olive oil and a pinch of salt. Let the onions cook slowly and stir them for about 30 minutes, you will see how they gradually become soft and brown.
We add the brown sugar, a trickle of vinegar and mix everything well. Let it simmer for another 30 minutes, so that the onion and the sugar caramelize together. Continue stirring the onions until they turn to a delicious golden brown!
